n. / Agents and tools
Definition
A planner agent breaks a large goal into smaller steps and hands them to other agents or tools to carry out. It focuses on deciding what to do, not on doing it.
In more detail
Planning first can make long tasks more reliable, but plans can be wrong or go stale as results come in, so many systems re-plan after each step. Compare the plan with what actually ran: a gap between the two is a common source of silent failures.
Example
Asked to write a market report, the planner returns five steps: search, read sources, extract figures, draft, check. Worker agents then handle each step.
