Context window

Definition

The context window is the maximum amount of text, measured in tokens, that a language model can read and write in a single call, including the prompt, the conversation history, tool results and the reply.

In more detail

Agents that keep appending tool output can fill the window, which raises cost and latency and can push important instructions out of the model's attention.
